If you plan on shopping the Tax Free Holiday Weekend for back to school needs – check out these tips:

1.  Crowds — Shopping in crowded aisles is frustrating – peak times are Saturday and Sunday during the day. If you can swing it, shop early or late or during church services.

2.  Growth spurts —  It’s hard to plan for growth spurts. If you’re thinking about buying jeans or other fall clothing hold off for future sales.  Instead you might supplement your child’s wardrobe with thrift store finds, which are also included in tax exempt status.

3. Recycle as many school supplies as you can — I reuse all of their school supplies and replenish later in the year.  However I know you may need new notebooks etc.  Before you go to far into your shopping trip, ask friends or family to see if they have extra supplies you can trade for or have. For example expensive scientific calculators etc.

4.  Saving 8 to 10 percent on any of the lower priced items isn’t worth the hassle of shopping  However, if you’re buying a computer then this is the weekend to buy. But what if you’re not – and you still need items? You need to have your ads, know online prices and carry coupons.
5.  Shop online – you can get all your school supplies online
Amazon offers free shipping to prime members
Target is offering free shipping through Aug. 15 no minimum
Also online retailers are not charging tax as long as the ship to address is an Alabama address.
