Louisville is just a short drive from Alabama yet it’s never on the radar for families who talk to me about vacations.  However let me make the case that it should be.  This city on the border of Kentucky and Indiana is filled with educational attractions and tours that are just so cool, you gotta make the effort to get there.

One of the most iconic tours is the Louisville Slugger factory tour.  This tour and interactive museum is worth every penny for admission.

Not only are there educational displays, a collection of bats used by MLB players and incredible sculptures, there’s also a batting cage area that provides a fun experience for the kids after the tour.

What to expect:

The factory tour is just phenomenal. You will see the whole process from start to finish. Cutting, sanding, staining and engraving are all a part of the fascinating tour. The factory is loud in some areas and it can be hard to hear the tour guide so make sure your kids are where they can see and hear to maintain their attention.

Don’t miss the bat vault tour. It is an incredible collection of bats and actual MLB player contracts that you can view.  We were able to find my husband’s cousin’s bat and contract.

Freebies: In the tour you’ll receive a ‘nubbin’ it’s the cast off from the bats.  At the end you’ll get a free mini bat as well.  You can also purchase cast off bats for discounted rates.

Time: It took us about 30 minutes to go through the factory.  It’s a flat walk, no steps.
